Mission & Outreach
At First UMC, we believe one of the best ways to share God's love is to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Our Missions and Outreach team stays busy year round sharing the Gospel of Jesus with those in our church, community, and all around the world through acts of service. You do not need experience to help on any of our projects - just a willing heart!
If you have a heart for missions, contact Shelley (shelleygibson@fumcwilson.org) to see how you can get plugged in!
Some of our past and current mission projects are listed below!
Gifts of Love - Bed Building Project
Coined Gifts of Love, this church-wide project built 25 beds for children right in our community who were previously sleeping on the floor. From the wood to the screws to the mattresses and linens, everything was donated, constructed, and delivered by our generous church family.
Blessing Box - 100 Green St. NE
Our Blessing Box is located on the sidewalk near Blackburn Building at 100 Green St. NE. With the idea of "Take what you need, leave what you can," we pray this small food pantry meets the physical needs of those in our community. Everyone is welcome to donate or use the Blessing Box as they feel led. Drop your items directly in the box or donate to the church pantry for us to fill as needed. For ideas on what to place in the box, please click here.
Little Free Library
Our Little Free Library provides 24/7 access to free books for all ages! Everyone is welcome to borrow a book or leave a book! It is located on the sidewalk by the Blackburn Building on 100 Green St. NE. 27893.
Volunteers in Mission
Our Volunteers in Mission team is currently looking for new members! Anyone 18+ is invited to join this group - no experience necessary! Just a willing heart!
Local Outreach
Our church works with several ministries in Wilson; including The Hope Station, The Wesley Shelter, Children's Hunger Elimination of Wilson (CHEW), the Community Soup Kitchen, and the Flynn Homes.
Christmas Gifting
We participate in Operation Christmas Child, collect non-perishable foods at our White Gifts service, and combine with First Christian Church to gift warm blankets, scarves, and gloves to those in need each Christmas season.
