The Music Ministry of First United Methodist Church is founded on a strong commitment and love for Jesus Christ. It is because of that love that we strive to achieve excellence in Christ-centered musical arts.
The Chancel Choir is the primary team in the Music Ministry program. This very dedicated group of people presents choral anthems for the 11:00 a.m. worship service on a weekly basis. All who love to sing are welcome to join. Please know that you do not need to know how to read music in order to participate-- just a willing heart! In addition to singing, the Choir enjoys Christian fellowship throughout the year.
The Carillon Ringers is the name of our Handbell Choir. This team is a lot of fun and provides another musical opportunity for those who may not feel that singing is their gift. Although it is helpful to have some basic music reading skills, it is certainly not required. Those who have a desire and dedication to learn how to ring can do so while enjoying the Christian fellowship during our rehearsal times. A strong commitment to the team is necessary and the choir rings for both of our worship services a minimum of six times per year.
The 9:00 service is our newest worship service. It is contemporary in style and is led by the praise band, a small group of talented singers and instrumentalists who lead us in worship each Sunday morning. We meet each week for rehearsal and study in God’s Word. The band is open to all those who have a gift for playing an instrument or singing.
We are please to offer this youth choir ministry to the middle school students of Wilson County and the surrounding areas. The Spirit Singers is a mixed choir of young men and women in the 6th though 8th grades. There is no audition required to participate in the choir. The only requirement is a willingness to serve and glorify God through music and the choir ministry. Whether you have had experience in choirs or this is your first time singing with a choral group, you will find this choir to be a challenging, fun and beautiful way to express you faith and to serve God.
Our goal is to help each chorister understand the they are ministers of the gospel of Christ, and by working together and singing together, we can have a much greater impact for God and His Kingdom than we ever could by ourselves.
Rehearsals begin September 10, 2017. They will take place in the choir room unless otherwise indicated. Rehearsals will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoons.
Please complete the registration form by clicking HERE. Please have registration filled out by September 1st. We are so excited about this new choir and look forward to the great things God will allow us to do together in His name. The Children’s Choir is for children kindergarten through fifth grade. The primary focus of the Children’s Choir is to teach children Christian songs that will make an important impact upon their hearts and lives. It is our hope that the lyrics to the songs they learn will be remembered during their formative years. The choir sings for the 11:00 a.m. worship service a minimum of five times per year.
Rehearsals: Sunday afternoons, 5:15 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. September through May. Rehearsals take place in the Blackburn Education Building.
