The Music Ministry of First United Methodist Church is founded on a strong commitment and love for Jesus Christ. It is because of that love that we strive to achieve excellence in Christ-centered musical arts.
The Chancel Choir is the primary team in the Music Ministry program. This very dedicated group of people presents choral anthems for the 11:00 a.m. worship service on a weekly basis. All who love to sing are welcome to join. Please know that you do not need to know how to read music in order to participate-- just a willing heart! In addition to singing, the Choir enjoys Christian fellowship throughout the year.
The Carillon Ringers is the name of our Handbell Choir. This team is a lot of fun and provides another musical opportunity for those who may not feel that singing is their gift. Although it is helpful to have some basic music reading skills, it is certainly not required. Those who have a desire and dedication to learn how to ring can do so while enjoying the Christian fellowship during our rehearsal times. A strong commitment to the team is necessary and the choir rings for both of our worship services a minimum of six times per year.
The 9:00 service is our newest worship service. It is contemporary in style and is led by the praise band, a small group of talented singers and instrumentalists who lead us in worship each Sunday morning. We meet each week for rehearsal and study in God’s Word. The band is open to all those who have a gift for playing an instrument or singing.
The Children’s Choir is for children ages four years old through fifth grade. The primary focus of the Children’s Choir is to teach children Christian songs that will make an important impact upon their hearts and lives. It is our hope that the lyrics to the songs they learn will be remembered during their formative years. The choir sings for the 11:00 a.m. worship service a minimum of five times per year.
Rehearsals: Wednesday afternoons, 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. September through May. Rehearsals take place in the Blackburn Education Building.
