Our VIM is a construction work team whose members are men and women from all backgrounds, occupations, ages and skill levels. This group of dedicated Christians not only talks about God’s love, it also lives the Volunteers-in-Mission slogan of showing “Christian Love in Action.” Even though the primary mission is to help construct Methodist church buildings in foreign countries, VIM often assists with repair needs at our own church and in our own community. It has also worked to help spread the Gospel by building or renovating churches in over 14 small, rural areas in Eastern North Carolina.

KK4J is a ministry that connects kids in Belize to Jesus and to kids in the USA. In 2014, FUMC-Wilson sent several families on a week-long mission to Belize, or what KK4Jesus organizers call "Family Mission Impact Journeys". While there, our kids learned how to implement Jesus' commandment to go and make disciples in all nations.

Our Hand in Hand ministry is a partnership with Margaret Hearne Elementary School. Our goals are to have a positive impact in the lives of children and to nurture a healthy school environment. Each year we do a variety of things at Hearne. Some of these have included teacher appreciation events, stocking the clothes closet, providing school supplies, adopting families at Christmas, sending students to Act for Youth plays and musicals, and provide one on one tutors for students in need.
La Estrella is a joint mission sponsored by the Heritage and Capital Districts of the United Methodist Church through which we "serve Hispanic brothers and sisters in Christ by helping families grow into their God-given potential." Through Bible lessons worship, tutoring, crafts, games, field trips and hot meals, we begin to reach the children and families through Christian love.

Our community garden is located on the corner of Reid and Gold street. The garden provides healthy food for those in need it the neighborhood. The garden has recently been updated through a great Eagle Scout project done by Sharpe Newton. Three more boxes have been added and a new irrigation system. During each new planting season excitement is seen in the neighboring homes to see what is going to be planted next.
Jobs for Life™ is a national, faith-based program for the unemployed and underemployed. During an 8-week period, students learn basic skills needed to apply for a job. At First United Methodist Church, we have assembled a team of business people, instructors, and guest speakers to train and mentor these students.
